Editor’s Note: Dennis Maze’s name was misspelled in the original breaking news story. The release was sent out from the Carter County Sheriff’s Department with the last name Mays instead of Maze.
A Carter County man is in police custody following a standoff with law enforcement Monday evening.
Around 6:15 pm, deputies of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office responded to Massey Street in the Biltmore community after a 911 caller reported seeing a man shooting a gun at a neighbor’s home.
“When officers arrived, they saw a male subject running inside a residence and a standoff ensued,” Carter County Sheriff Mike Fraley said. “It lasted about an hour and the male subject ended up coming out voluntarily.”
The man, who was identified as Dennis Maze, 59, of Massey Street, Elizabethton, was arrested and transported to the Carter County Detention Center.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
Maze has been charged with one count of felony reckless endangerment. Additional charges are pending further investigation. Maze is being held in the Carter County Detention Center under a $10,000 bond. No arraignment date has been set as of press time.
