Police: Elizabethton man hit by truck as he tried to run across Broad Street

An Elizabethton man was seriously injured after being hit by a truck on Broad Street late Monday.
According to information from the Elizabethton Police Department, Atithi Bandhu, 21, was apparently running across Broad Street from the area of Tobacco Depot when he ran into the path of a 2011 Ford F150 traveling west on Broad.
The truck struck Bandhu, who was still in the roadway when first responders arrived at about 8:45 p.m. He was transported to Johnson City Medical Center with “apparent serious injuries,” the police statement said.
Shannon Smith, 56, of Elizabethton, was the driver of the truck. She was not injured.
The incident remains under investigation.
