Dana “Steve” Kyte, 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 26, 2022. Just recently, he reaffirmed his love of Jesus by being rebaptized.
Steve was born on January 3, 1936, in Elizabethton. He was the first baby born in Carter County that year. He graduated from Elizabethton High School and was a proud member of the ‘Betsy Band. He retired from the USAF as Master Sergeant after 21 years, serving in North Africa, Korea and England. He later retired from the State of Virginia, serving with the Virginia Employment Commission as a fraud investigator for 37 years.
Steve was a Master Mason and loved fishing and traveling with his family.
He was a devoted family man and loving Christian. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Port St. John, Fla.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Dana Harmon and Emma Mae Kyte.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, June Kyte; his son, Michael Kyte of Vinton, Va.; his daughter, Tracy and her husband Randy Hager of Cocoa, Fla.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his brother, Jim and wife Joanne of Melbourne, Fla.; and his brother, Bill and wife Linda of Elizabethton.
There will be a memorial service to be announced later in Port St. John, Fla.
The world was a better place when he was in it.
