Carolyn J. Phillips Brace, 88, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Johnson City Medical Center. Carolyn was born in Carter County on May 8, 1934 to the late William L. Phillips and Hannah (Honeycutt) Phillips. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Leo F. Brace; three brothers, Clyde Phillips, Arville Phillips and Troy Phillips; and two sisters, Mae Matheson and Marjorie Bailey.
Carolyn was a devout Christian and attended First Free Will Baptist Church of Elizabethton. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed her family and her time with them greatly. She also loved her cat “Peanut” and was an avid game player.
Those left to cherish Carolyn’s memory include two sons, Stephen Brace and Jonathan Brace, both of Elizabethton, Tenn.; one sister, Shirley Batchelder of Elizabethton, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Stephanie Maxwell of Kingsport, Tenn., Matthew Brace and Hannah Holly, both of Elizabethton, Tenn.; six great-grandchildren, TJ, Max, Wesley, Lucas, Landon and Lillie; and five special nieces, Susan, Sheree, Loretta, Angie and Helen.
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Carter County Humane Society, 135 Sycamore Shoals Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643 in memory of Carolyn.
