In what has become an annual contest between the Elizabethton and Dobyns-Bennett junior varsity football teams around the Labor Day holiday, Monday presented the opportunity for both teams to get together for their annual scrum at Citizens Bank Stadium.
After a tight first half where the Indians took a 7-0 lead to the halftime break, D-B came out and filled the air with footballs in the second half to pull away for a 27-0 shutout.
The first half was played evenly between the two teams as neither seemed to be able to get the offense rolling toward the end zone. Dobyns-Bennett had the only score of the half coming with 2:13 remaining before the half when Gabe Marshall reeled in a reception as he stood wide open in the end zone.
After the extra point, the scoreboard read 7-0 in favor of the visitors from Kingsport.
The second half was a different story as the Indians tacked on 20 points thanks to two passing scores and one rushing score. Meanwhile, the Indian defense was doing a good job of keeping the host team off the scoreboard.
Elizabethton couldn’t find their offensive juices as the Indians shut down everything that Cyclone JV head coach Brian Jenkins was trying to dial up.
