Lonnie Shell, 80, was ushered home by a host of angels on Thursday, August 18, 2022, to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his father, Orville Shell, mother Mae, his brothers, sisters, and lots of other close friends and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Geraldine Honeycutt Shell; one brother, Jim Shell and wife Joy; a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, special neighbors, friends, and family who were close to his heart.
Lonnie loved spending time doing special things for his wife, working in his garden, tinkering with antique engines, solving Bible word search puzzles, leading Bible School, and church activities. He also proudly served our country in the Vietnam War.
Lonnie was a faithful member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church.
A celebration of Lonnie’s life will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, August 21, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Mark Potter officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service.
The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, August 22, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside. Active pallbearers will be Darrell Hitechew, Shannon “Hobo” Burchett, Charlie Odom, Larry Tipton, Carl Roberson, Bobby James, Anthony Buck and Buster Young. Honorary pallbearers are his nephews and his Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church Family. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 11:45 a.m. Monday.
