Lonnie Dale Cates, 65, a resident of Carter County, passed away unexpectedly on July 10, 2022. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sallie Claudette “Patsy,” and father, Bill Cates; one brother, Joel Lee Cates; and a great-grandson, Cody Alan Miller Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Doris Cates; a daughter, Shenandoah Stout, and special son-in-law, Jack Stout; three sisters, Bobbie Sue Williams (Dennis), Juanita Nidiffer (Brent) and Joyce McWatters (Johnny); one brother, Rick Cates (Jill); his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Calvyn, Cali, Jackson and Breanna (Cody); four great-grandchildren, Connor, Carson, Jackson and Destiny; two brothers-in-law, Larry Deloach (Cathy) and John Deloach; and a special friend, Butch Cole.
Lonnie lived in Carter County his entire life and worked for Hayes Contractors before retiring in 2021. He was of the Baptist faith, strong in his faith, and fully trusted God’s Word. Lonnie lived the Golden Role and treated others the way he wanted to be teated. He taught his family two simple things to live by: Give and Forgive.
The family welcomes family and friends at Lonnie’s home anytime. A Celebration of Life service is being scheduled for a later date.
