An argument that started with a slap left one man dead from a gunshot to the chest and another man charged with murder.
Ryan D. Williams, 27, of Bluff City, has been charged with first-degree murder and was being held in the Carter County Jail.
Police say the incident took place around 2:45 p.m. Thursday at 1010 Oak St. Officers responded to a report of a shooting and found Anthony D. Guy, 32, of Elizabethton, on the ground in front of the residence. “The officer began assisting with first aid and learned that another male on the scene identified himself as Ryan D. Williams, 27, of Bluff City, as the shooter,” police said in a statement. Williams was arrested by officers and taken to the police department for further questioning. The victim, Anthony D. Guy, was transported to Sycamore Shoals Hospital by Carter County EMS where he later died.
According to police, the two men knew each other, as Guy’s sister is the girlfriend of Williams. “It was learned the two had been in an argument and Guy slapped Williams and then Williams shot Guy in the chest with a handgun,” police said in the statement.
