With the end of school, that means that sports have pretty much slowed down for a temporary time in school athletics. However, that is not the case in local youth league action.
One league that is currently playing is the Elizabethton Youth League Soccer program that is played every Saturday at the LaPorte Soccer Fields behind Northeast Community Credit Union on Jason Witten Way and the field located next to the ETSU Nursing facility across the street from the Elizabethton High School tennis courts.
On Saturday morning, the Green Hornets and the Citizen Bank teams were going head to head on the soccer field. In these games, it really isn’t about winning and losing, it’s about teaching the fundamentals of soccer and presenting an opportunity for the kids to have fun and experience the feeling of being on a team.
And it’s always entertaining for the family that sits along the sidelines cheering on their child or grandchild and sometimes evening playing with the family dog.
Sports Editor Ivan Sanders was at the field on Saturday morning and captured some of the fun action being played.
