The Hampton Bulldogs were looking to add to an already history-making season by securing the regional title in another showdown with the University High Bucs.
It was the same song and dance for Hampton however as the Bucs Miles Bembry spun a whale of a game against the Bulldogs as U-H captured the region title with a five-inning, 10-0 win over Hampton.
Bembry tossed the full five innings for U-H as the hurler allowed the Bulldogs only two hits while striking out nine in the game.
Chance Point was the only Bulldog to record a hit in the contest as he was 2-for-3 in the contest for Coach Nicholas Perkins ‘Dogs who fell to 24-12 on the season as the 24 wins are a school record for wins.
Caleb Royston was saddled with the loss for Hampton as the senior lasted only one-third of an inning allowing five runs on four hits and walked one.
The Bucs, meanwhile, were tearing the cover off the baseball recording 10 hits in only four innings. Cade Pollack, Hank Stott, and Drew Finney collected two hits apiece to lead U-H to the region title.
Bembry, Jacob Peeler, Bushy Rider, and Jack Harmon had one hit each for the Bucs.
U-H will be playing host to Greenback on Friday in sectional action while Hampton will hit the road to face Coalfield on Friday. Coalfield defeated Greenback 9-8 in their regional championship.
A win on Friday would send the Bulldogs to the Class A state tournament’s final eight next week.
