Coach Bobby Chambers was inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame. Chambers played sports at Elizabethton before coming back to coach baseball and basketball.
He then coached at Lynn View and was Sullivan East’s first basketball coach. Before East, Chambers coached from 1966 to 1968 at Lynn View High School where he compiled a record of 124 wins and 16 losses.
He then was head coach at Tennessee High where he went to three sub-states and a state tournament. He averaged over 24 wins per season and over 300 wins.
He coached great players like Mark Mason and Derrick Hord who some believe was the bests athlete to play in the East Tennessee area. Hord went on to play at Kentucky.
Chambers coached at the University of Kentucky during Hord’s four years.
In high school coaching, Chambers had 13 twenty-win seasons. He coached the 1979 McDonald All-Star game. Chambers was voted Coach of the Year eight times in the Big Six and was Coach of the Year three times in the Big Nine.
Chambers was inducted in by last year’s inductee Shelby Miller. Chambers is in the Elizabethton Sports Hall of Fame and the Carter County Sports Hall of Fame.
