Roan Mountain shooting suspect turns self in to sheriff’s office

A man wanted in the shooting of a man in Roan Mountain on Wednesday night has turned himself into the Carter County Sheriff’s Office Thursday.
According to a sheriff’s department spokesman, 40-year-old Eric Lee Thompson turned himself in around 8:45 p.m. Thursday evening.
Thompson was a suspect in the shooting of 49-year-old Jeffrey McMahan of Roan Mountain Wednesday. Deputies were called to the Valero located on 19-E in Roan Mountain where they found 49-year-old Jeffrey McMahan in a car with multiple gunshot wounds. McMahan was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center by EMS where he remains in critical condition.
Thompson will be facing a charge of attempted first-degree murder in the case.
