Local residents will have to drag out winter coats and gloves one more time this weekend as a cold blast of arctic air promised to bring bone-chilling temperatures and accumulating snow late Friday into Saturday.
The most recent forecast shows Carter County in the two to three inch zone while high elevations could receive higher amounts. According to meteorologists, the snow will begin as rain before transitioning to snow overnight as the cold air streams in.
Heavy snow is expected for several hours during the early hours of Saturday morning before tapering off to snow showers and flurries around mid-day Saturday.
Residents will also have to be aware of gusty winds that could be upwards of 35 miles per hour which will make driving even more treacherous.
With some new residents to the area who may not have experienced driving in snow, Kelly Blue Book provides tips for winter driving and safety.
While temperatures are expected to be in the low 30s on Saturday, the National Weather Service says that temperatures will rebound back into the 60s on Monday.
