When the final horn sounded after the championship of the District 1 1-A Girl’s Basketball Tournament, there was still some unfinished business to take care of as season and tournament awards were to be presented.
Two major awards in the All-Conference awards presentation were the Player of the Year and the Coach of the Year.
Named as the 2022 Player of the Year was Unaka’s Lyndie Ramsey. Ramsey, a junior, is fastly approaching the 2,000-point plateau averaged over 30 points a game in the tournament where the Lady Rangers finished third.
The Coach of the Year was presented to first-year head coach Brandon Carpenter of Hampton who came in and helped turn the Lady Bulldogs around this season as Hampton (18-15) reached the region as the four-seed after falling to Unaka on Monday night.
Brooklyn Anderson was presented the MVP of the District 1 1-A tournament as she led the Lady Huskies of North Greene to the championship.
North Greene also captured the regular-season title.
