James William “J.W.” Turner, 78, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at his residence. J.W. was born in Akron, Ohio to the late Clayton and Rose Grace Allshouse. In addition to his parents, J.W. was preceded in death by his first wife, Diane Turner; his second wife, Beth Turner; two daughters, Lynney Workman and Christina Phillips; a sister, Alice Charlton; and a brother, Teddy Turner.
J.W. had worked as a long haul trucker for over 35 years and he loved to fish. J.W. could often be seen around town just walking and enjoying the outdoors and he always had a story to tell about his travels all over the country. J.W. loved driving his “big rig” and riding his motorcycle.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Diane (Randy) Hill of Roan Mountain, Tenn., Rose Dunn of Akron, Ohio, Julie Vanzile of Arizona and Mary Turner of Akron, Ohio; his sons, James Turner Jr. (Tina) of Texas, James Turner II of Arizona and James Turner III of Arizona; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clayton Allshouse of Akron, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and his very special little companion, Little Harley.
A service to honor J.W.’s life will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 24, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at Rose Hill Cemetery in Akron, Ohio with pallbearers selected from family. The family would like to especially thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Amedysis Hospice for the exceptional and loving care given to J.W. during his illness.
