Hillside Drive shooting victim identified

The Carter County Sheriff’s Department has released the name of a man killed early Saturday morning in a shooting on Hillside Drive.
The victim was 43-year-old Jeremy Edward Cross.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, the shooting happened around 1 a.m. on Saturday morning in the Sinking Creek community of the county after multiple calls were received reporting shots fired.
When police arrived, they found Cross suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. Deputies administered CPR until the man was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Cross died a short time later.
Police are currently searching for 25-year-old Austin Michael Brady and 40-year-old Kenneth Matthew Dayton who are wanted for questioning regarding the homicide. Both men have active arrest warrants.
Investigators were called to the scene and determined that both the victim and a suspect had exchanged gunshots with each other. They also found that the victim had been driving a stolen vehicle and was wanted on multiple arrest warrants.
Investigators ask that if anyone has information on the location of the two men to call the sheriff’s office dispatch at 423-542-1845.
