“Growing up, I used to go to yard sales and flea markets with my grandparents. It was something that everyone would do,” Mathes said. “Along with that, my grandmother and I would listen to swap shop on the radio every morning.”

And when the opportunity to join the series came about, he didn’t hesitate.

“I was at Sears in the Johnson City Mall, and I received a call from a New Jersey number. I usually don’t answer the phone, but I did that time and it turned out to be one of the producers from the show. It sounded like a great opportunity so we went along with it,” Mathes said.

The first season of the show debuted on Nov. 9, 2021, and featured many parts of East Tennessee as well as several people like Mathes and Leona. The show was such a success that a second season has been ordered. It will release later in 2022.

Filming for the second season has already begun, and in this season the City of Elizabethton is prominently featured, with Mathes and Leona visiting Duck Crossing Antique Mall in Downtown Elizabethton during one episode.

“We actually had JP and Leona over here recently to film things for an episode that we are featured in,” said Duck Crossing owner Misty Counts.

“It is something that is very exciting for us because it helps us and the rest of downtown Elizabethton get exposure. But it is also something that is just very cool because of the premise of the show,” Counts said.

The exact release date has not been set.
