To the Editor:
Elizabethton is our quaint and cherished home. Our small town is home to only 13,577 people. While we may be small compared to our neighboring towns and cities, we can have an enormous impact. Globally, there are millions of families living on less than $1 a day. On average, Americans believe that about 25% of the U.S. budget goes to foreign aid. In reality, it is less than 1%.
I am an ambassador at The Borgen Project, and our mission is to advocate, mobilize, educate, and provide messaging on the pressing matter of global poverty. We are working to place a congressional focus on global poverty and U.S. foreign policy.
Even in our small town, there is so much that can be done — in just minutes — that can change legislative trajectory. Reach out to your congressional leaders, Marsha Blackburn, and Bill Hagerty. Support the International Affairs Budget and give a voice to the voiceless in a world that is leaving the impoverished behind.
