Main Street Elizabethton is hosting a Lovin’ Downtown event through Valentine’s Day in an effort to encourage shoppers to support local businesses.

“We want downtown to be the community’s one stop shop for all things Valentine’s Day,” said Main Street Director Courtney Bean. “Our downtown businesses have a wide selection of different gifts, treats, and experiences to offer your valentine, your family, your galentine, or even yourself.

“What I love most is the variety of items that our businesses have to offer. Again, whether you are looking for something for your children, your significant other, or even your best friend, there is a little bit of something for everyone,” Bean said.

In Elizabethton, Main Street has worked hard to promote local businesses.

“It is so important to support local, no matter the time of year. People think about shopping local during the holiday season, but we want members of the community to stop by and shop downtown all throughout the year,” she said.

“You may be shopping for your valentine, but taking part in an event such as this shows that you are showing love to the downtown area, just as the name suggests.”

Several businesses and organizations are taking part in the Lovin’ Downtown, with a variety of deals and events that include:

– Rae Dunn Valentine’s gifts at All Star Sports & Country Crafts
– 10-20% off select items at Cottage Boutique
– A special gift for visitors on Valentine’s Day at the Elizabethton Chamber of Commerce
– Valentine’s Day gift certificate specials at Natural Kneads
– Special store sales from Feb. 11 until Feb. 14 at Simple Blessings General Store
– Special Valentine’s arrangements and chocolate bouquets at The Secret Garden
– Valentine’s treats at Simply Elegant Bakery & Catering and The Cardinal Kitchen
– Jamaican Blue Mountain special release (call to order) and a Valentine’s themed latte menu at The Coffee Company
– A Valentine’s Day Coloring Contest at Simple Blessings General Store
– Galentine’s Day Macrame Workshop at Riverside Taphouse from 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 10 (pre-registration required)
– Nuttin’ But Love Karaoke at Jiggy Ray’s Downtown Pizzeria at 7 p.m. on Feb. 12
– Happy Trails 5K Run & 1K Pet Walk benefitting Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter on Feb. 13 (pre-registration required)
