GREENVILLE, S.C. – The ETSU women’s basketball team opens its road trip with a loss against Furman.
STAT OF THE CONTEST
Both teams played hard in the arc tonight. A combined 70 points from both benches came from within the paint.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Demi Burdick (Marshall, Ill.) was one-of-three double-digit scorers for the Bucs. Burdick led the Bucs with 15 points and eight rebounds. She also went 3-3 at the charity stripe tonight.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Even after Furman went on a quick 9-0 run to start the game, offensive rebounds would help the Bucs stay within seven points in the first frame of play.
The Bucs would start the second quarter on a 7-1 run, cutting the Paladins’ lead to only one point. Furman would quickly retaliate to take the lead back, most of their points in the quarter coming from inside the paint.
The Bucs would be able to keep up with the Paladins’ fast pace trailing only by seven going into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, the third quarter had moments of redemption for the Bucs till the Paladins went on a 9-0 run with less than five minutes remaining in the quarter.
This would result in a 16-point lead for Furman, their largest of the game. The Bucs would end the quarter trailing by 15-points. After a back-and-forth final six minutes of play and a 6-2 run by the Bucs, it would not be enough for them to overcome their deficit. ETSU would end the game trailing by 12.
