It’s time to ring in 2022, and there are a couple of places in Carter County that members of the community can go to celebrate the final night of 2021.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Elizabethton will host an annual New Year’s Eve Bash on Dec. 31.
“It is events like this that help us sustain the post, because we are completely self-funded. We do not receive any money from the state or nationally so everything from paying the water bill or any improvements comes from self-funding,” said Andy Wetzel, post commander.
This is the second year of the VFW’s New Year’s Eve Bash, with the previous event being held in 2019 and last year’s celebration being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The celebration will take place at VFW Post 2166 located at 2001 West Elk Avenue in Elizabethton and is open to the public. Things will kick off at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 with a live performance from Jerry Pierce & The Nightlife Band and will carry through the night until 12:30 a.m.
The cost is $25 per person through cash or check and a table for eight is available at the price of $200. The event will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres, dessert, a cash bar, and champagne at midnight. Tickets can be purchased at the Veterans Service Office at the Carter County Courthouse or from members of VFW Post 2166. For more information on the event, contact David Batchelder at (423) 542-1824.
For those in the community closer to the Roan Mountain area, The Station at 19E will also be hosting a celebration to bring in the new year.
“This is an event we do every year,” said David Magee, owner of The Station at 19E. “We are going to be having karaoke with Jesse Hawkins. It’s known as Krazy Karaoke and has become pretty famous on Friday nights in Roan Mountain. To skip it and not have it, even on New Year’s Eve, I would probably get run out of town and burned at the stake.”
“In addition to karaoke, there will also be all you can eat food including black eyed peas, cornbread, chili, meat plates, and all of that good stuff. There will also be party favors and a midnight toast,” said Magee.
The Station at 19E’s New Year’s Eve Bash will kick off on Friday, Dec. 31, at 8 p.m. and will conclude around 1 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2022. Tickets to the celebration are $15 and can be purchased at thestationat19e.com. The Station at 19E is located at 9367 Highway 19E in Roan Mountain. For more information call 423-250-3700.
