The City of Elizabethton is offering a local facade rehabilitation grant for the Historic Downtown area of the community, and a public interest meeting will be held next Monday for those interested in applying.

The city was recently awarded a Downtown Improvement Grant by the state of Tennessee, however this local grant will be coming from the city budget and not the state.

“This grant is different from the Downtown Improvement Grant in that this local grant focuses on much smaller projects rather than bigger and more complex renovations,” said Courtney Bean, director of Main Street Elizabethton. “The grant is a 50/50 match that comes from the City of Elizabethton.”

The city council designated a total of $10,000 for this local facade grant, which can be used on painting, windows, signage, etc. Businesses can apply for this grant and receive up to a $2,000 match.

“It is incredible that our City Council and the City of Elizabethton are committed to downtown improvements and supporting businesses owners in their endeavor to further develop our downtown area,” Bean said.

The public interest meeting begins at 6 p.m. Nov. 1 at City Hall.

“We are hosting this meeting and opening up applications for the local facade grant on November 1st because the projects that are coming from the city budget need to be wrapped up in line with the end of our fiscal year,” Bean said.
