Ivy Hall ‘pumpkin art’ on display

Halloween is a special time at Ivy Hall Nursing Home and has been for the past seven years. From the side ledges to the steps leading up to the front door are decorated with pumpkins — all unique pieces of art. There are no duplicates as each one has been designed and painted by a different person. There are even a few scarecrows featured among the decorated pumpkins.
“It’s a fall tradition here at the home, and so many people and groups participate by painting and donating the pumpkins, which are on display. Church groups, pre-schoolers, some of our residents, many of our employees, and people from the community have participated this year,” said Tim Andrews, Activity Director at Ivy Hall.
Andrews said the painted pumpkins are pieces of art. “I’m amazed at some of the work that went into the pumpkins, and the creativity on display. Every pumpkin is a piece of art and represents a person. They just get better each year. We are so thankful for all those who participated this year,” Andrews said.
Andrews noted that because of COVID, the past two years have been hard for nursing home residents. “They have been locked down and much of the time have been unable to have visitors or to even go out. It has been very depressing, but most have done well with it. They have a fighting spirit,” he shared.
“The pumpkins are inspiring to both our residents and workers. To me, the pumpkins represent hope and they bring a smile to our faces at Ivy Hall. We are so grateful to the community,” Andrews said.
The public is invited to drive by and view the art.
