Carter County reported another COVID-19 death last week.

The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) statistics released Friday report 208 new cases in Northeast Tennessee during the prior week including 61 in Sullivan County; 46 in Washington County; 36 in Greene County; 24 in Carter County; 21 in Hawkins County; 11 in Johnson County; and seven in Unicoi County.

Four COVID-related deaths were reported, with one each in Carter, Johnson, Sullivan and Unicoi counties.

A total of 45.6 percent — some 230,700 people — of the region’s population is vaccinated, with vaccination rates dropping by 30 percent over the prior week.

Among counties in the regions, vaccination rates are as follows: Washington, 54 percent; Sullivan, 48 percent; Unicoi, 47 percent; Greene, 42 percent; and Hawkins, Carter and Johnson, below 25 percent.

Since the pandemic began in April 2020, the state of Tennessee has recorded 1,260,980 cases and 15,769 deaths, while Northeast Tennessee has contributed 87,800 of those cases and 1,450 deaths.

Carter County has recorded 10,355 total cases of COVID-19 and 208 deaths since the pandemic began.
