Phyllis Ester Huff, 89, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at her home. Phyllis was born in Twin Branch, W.Va., to the late Daniel and Arlie Caudle Huff. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by several cousins, aunts and uncles and a great neighbor, Tom.
Phyllis received her doctorate in education and spent her entire life educating young people, which was her greatest joy. She started her career as a high school teacher, before becoming a college professor at Purdue University and finally finishing her career as a professor for the University of Tennessee. Phyllis received many awards and accommodations in her career. She enjoyed sewing — even making her own clothes. Phyllis worked with a therapy dog and made quilts for women’s services. She loved to travel to places such as Japan and Russia.
Those left to cherish her legacy include her sister, Shirley Rhinehart; a niece, Sandy Hazelwood and husband Bud and their children, Megan and Brody Hazelwood; and her good friends, Dorothy, Janet, Dean and Rick.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sycamore Springs Assisted Living and the doctors, nurses and staff of Amedysis Hospice. It was Phyllis’s wishes that no formal services be held. Online condolences may be shared with the family on our website, www.tetrickfuneralhome.com
