Whether they just came to walk the dogs or to adopt a new pet, members of the public were invited to a special Alive at Five event on Tuesday at the Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter.
By hosting an after-hours event, shelter organizers were able to reach many people who might not be able to visit during the daytime.
“This gives people an opportunity to come in and interact with the animals, whether that is walking the dogs or loving on the cats here,” said Shannon Posada, director of the animal shelter. “This event also gives members of the community an opportunity to come in and adopt if they work during a time that does not permit them to stop by during normal hours.”
Posada was pleased with the turnout “We have had a tremendous turnout,” she said. “The parking lot is full and we have plenty of people here for dogs and … cats as well.
“It is just a great interaction for the animals,” she added. “The dogs are getting to go on long walks or are getting to go down by the river, and the cats are being held and loved on.”
The shelter will host another adoption event this weekend.
“We actually do have an adoption event coming up this Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., and there will be special pricing on adoptions,” she said.
The Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter is located at 135 Sycamore Shoals Drive in Elizabethton and is open from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For those with any questions, the shelter can be reached by phone at (423) 547-6359.
