Holmes, recently named to the Stats Perform Preseason First Team All-America, was a finalist for the prestigious award following the spring 2021 season.

The FCS Walter Payton Award goes to the national offensive player of the year and is named after legendary running back, Walter Payton, who competed at Jackson State at the FCS level.

Holmes played in six games, rushing the ball 122 times for 640 yards and eight touchdowns. The Georgia product averaged 106.7 yards on the ground per game during the spring, averaging 5.2 yards per rush.
