David E. Morgan,86, of Bradenton, FL went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at the Tidewell Hospice in Bradenton Florida after an extended illness of kidney failure.
David was born in Banner Elk, NC on November 19, 1934, to the late James P. Morgan and the late Mary Alley Morgan. A native of Roan Mountain, TN. David was a 1953 graduate of Cloudland High School, where he was a member of the football and gymnastics team. He attended Lees McRae College in Banner Elk, NC., East Tennessee State University, Johnson City TN and Georgia Tech, Atlanta GA. He received his master’s degree in mathematics from Nova University, Ft. Lauderdale Florida. He also served in the National Guard.
David began his teaching career at Hopson School in the Tiger Valley community in Tennessee. He taught high school mathematics at Plant City High School, Plant City FL and at East Bay High School, Tampa FL where he retired after receiving a kidney transplant from his brother Wayne in July 1985.
David was a faithful member of the Church at Bradenton (Bradenton, FL) where he served as an usher for 20 years. He was also a member of St. John Freewill Baptist, Roan Mountain TN where he attended throughout his childhood with his parents & siblings.
David had many interests in sports. He loved watching the TN Volunteers (football, basketball & baseball), TN Lady Vols (basketball & softball), Tampa Bay Rays, PGA and almost anything “sports”. He loved fishing & playing golf with his brothers.
David loved reading his Bible and he researched the New Testament and studied prophecy. He wrote several books after studying the scriptures.
David is survived by his wife, Shirley Thompson Morgan of Roan Mountain, TN and Bradenton FL, stepchildren; David & Donna Daniels of Crossnore, NC and Mark & Nancy Daniels of Greenville, SC., grandchildren; Melissa & Jeff Keller of Crossnore, NC, Luke Daniels of Greenville SC, Tre Morgan and Skylar Morgan of Bradenton, FL., great-granddaughter McKenzie Keller, brothers; Roger (Sally) Morgan of Roan Mountain, TN, W.L. Morgan of Bradenton FL, Harry Morgan of Elizabethton TN., his sister, June M. Hicks of Elizabethton and several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, David was also preceded in death by Gregory Morgan and two brothers, Jack Morgan & Wayne Morgan.
A celebration of life and memorial service will be held on June 12, 2021, at 2 p.m., at St. John Freewill Baptist Church, Roan Mountain, TN., with Rev. Richard Sheppard, and Rev. Don Julian officiating. Interment will be a private service with family later.
