Despite impending rain that hovered over the Elizabethton Golf Course, the 2nd Annual VFW Golf Tournament once again played out successfully as all 34 teams were able to get in their round in support of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2166.

Post Commander Andy Wetzel was pleased with the turnout and the support that the event once again had in its second year of existence.

“We appreciate everyone coming out and all of those who helped make this a success,” said Wetzel. “All of the money raised will go to improving the VFW which is in need of some updates and repairs.

“We want to make it a special place for the veterans to come and enjoy.”

Although it really didn’t matter who came out on top as everyone was a winner for supporting the event, the Jason Nidiffer Team won with a team total of 52.

Second place was claimed by D and D Properties with a 53, one stroke behind the first-place team.

In the longest drive competition, Derrick Hamm and Jack Blevins took honors while Dicky Clark and Braxton Smith finished as closest to the pin.

There were a total of 33 hole sponsors for the tournament while the LaPorte Family served as the presenting sponsor.

The tournament also had two impact sponsors in Jonathan A. Street – Edward Jones and LaPorte and Norris/Richard Norris Attorney at Law.

“We hope to make this an annual event,” said Wetzel. “The Elizabethton Golf Course does an amazing job in helping us pull this event off.”

Golfers were served lunch by Tommy Tipton and his staff at the Elizabethton Chick-Fil-A while J’s Corner provided a meal after the tournament was completed.
