FROM STAFF REPORTS
The Hampton Bulldogs went on the road to Baileyton for an important Watauga Valley Conference baseball contest against North Greene on Monday.

And even though the Bulldogs had a couple of opportunities to either tie or take the lead, the Huskies managed to stave off any Hampton rallies to hold on to record a 2-0 win.

In the top of the fourth, the visiting Bulldogs had a great opportunity to score with runners on second and third base with one out but were unable to cash in.

Once again in the top of the sixth frame, the Bulldogs loaded the bases with one out. Unfortunately, Hampton big stick Colin Morgan lined hard into a double play which could have tied the game at 2-all.

Offensively, freshman Chance Point continued to swing a hot bat going 3-for-3, all singles, to pace Hampton at the dish. Morgan Lyons also continued to heat up collecting a pair of doubles in four trips to the plate.

North Greene pitcher Carson Whaley had a superb game as the hurler pitched the complete game giving up only six hits to the Bulldogs while striking out 12 ‘Dog batters and walking only three.

The loss left Hampton standing at 2-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Both teams were slated to play again on Tuesday at Scotty Bunton Field at 7 pm.
