For most of the season, Elizabethton head coach Lucas Honeycutt has always been able to count on Seth Carter to come off the bench and provide some valuable minutes.

On Saturday evening inside John Treadway Gym, Carter wasn’t playing second fiddle to anyone as he became the show stopper firing in 24 points to lead the Cyclones to a 62-48 win over South Greene and send the Cyclones to a region semifinal matchup with Greeneville.

The first half was a crowd thriller as the Cyclones and Rebels battled back and forth trying to establish some sort of momentum before Elizabethton settled for a 23-20 halftime lead.

Jake Roberts provided enough ammo to help the Cyclones grab the advantage with 10 points in the half. Carter added seven points and Nicholas Wilson scored the remaining six points of the half as only three Cyclones managed to find the scoring column.

Ayden Hawk scored 11 of South Greene’s 20 points in the opening 16 minutes to keep the Rebels within firing distance. Ty Bailey added a trey.

South Greene came out of the locker room on fire as they outscored the home Cyclones 16-15 to make it a two-point game heading into the final quarter of regulation.

Bailey scored five and Isaac Hoese four in propelling the Rebels attack. Carter’s two treys kept the Cyclones in front while William Willocks finally got on the scoreboard with four points.

With the season on the line for one of the teams, Carter stepped up big time in the final eight minutes to make sure that the Cyclones would live to play another day.

Carter scored 11 of the Cyclones 20 points in the quarter with Willocks adding four more to push the Cyclones past the visitors from Greeneville.

Roberts finished in double figures behind Carter with 15 points. Willocks and Wilson totaled eight each.

Hawk led South Greene while 14 points with Bailey finishing with 10.
