Sullivan East came out firing from long range on Wednesday evening at Bayless gymnasium connecting on five first period trey’s – nine for the game – in a 73-42 Three Rivers Conference victory over Happy Valley.
Guard Emma Aubrey had three shots beyond the arc and forward Jenna Hare added two more as the Lady Patriots raced to a 22-6 first period lead.
“They came out and hit some three’s and we didn’t close out well enough,” Lady Warriors head coach Dana Hill said. “I was proud of the kids. The scoreboard doesn’t reflect the effort they gave us in the second half. They competed and that is all I can ask for.”
East (13-3, 3-0 TRC) extended to a 37-18 halftime lead with Hare scoring 15 of her game-high 21 points in the first half. Happy Valley got a lift offensively in the second half from post Kadie Bailey who scored 19 points, hitting on three treys of her own.
“Kadie can do that,” Hill said. “She played extremely well and we are young you have to understand that. But Kadie when she gets hot can light it up.
“I think some of the teams come in here with a little swagger and we get a little scared and terrified because we don’t quite believe yet.”
The Patriots continued to pour it on in the second half enjoying a 55-32 advantage going into the final stanza. Aubrey finished with 16 points with Hannah Hodge adding 12 and Haley Grubb scored 10.
Senior guard Olivia Absher scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Warriors.
