David Carl Maples passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020, at his home in Roan Mountain, Tenn., at the age of 79. He was born December 8, 1941 in Trenton, N.J., grew up in Morganton, N.C., and lived most of his adult life in Roan Mountain.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Buck Maples, Roan Mountain, Tenn.; sister, Karyn Maples Robinson and her husband Michael Brown from Candler, N.C.; and sister, Marilyn Maples of Sparta, Tenn., as well as other family members as below.
Children: Bobby Port of Morganton, N.C., Larry Shouppe of California, Laura Maples of California, and Lois Jongberg and husband Doug Downs of Morganton, N.C.
Step-children: Holly Buck and friend Jimmy Struber of Vermont, Frankie Buck of Vermont, Vern Buck and wife Amy of Vermont, and Jim Buck and wife Caprice of Washington.
Grandchildren: Thomas Shouppe (mother Tina) of Georgia, David Maples (mother Velma) of California, and Vyralyn Shouppe (mother Velma) of California.
Step-grandchildren: Matthew Fickett, Elizabeth Fickett, Anna Joy Fickett, Natasha Buck, Joshua Buck and Mary Belle Buck, and three great-grandchildren.
Nephew: Dr. Franklin Cobos II, MD of Sparta, Tenn.
Nieces: Nancy Rice of Georgia by parents Wayne and Fritzy Maples and brother Albert Maples.
He was mostly an industrial sewing machine mechanic, and a brick, block and rock mason. He loved horses, motorcycles, gardening, herbal studies, and the country lifestyle. He loved visiting with his family and friends, especially quality time with his children, grandchildren, and stepchildren/grandchildren who were like his own. David was very active in the Roan Mountain Seventh-day Adventist Church.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 30, at 1 p.m. at Roan Mountain Seventh-day Adventist Church, 265 Heaton Creek Road, Roan Mountain, Tenn.
