Main Street Elizabethton will play host to a very special evening holiday shopping experience this weekend.
The organization will sponsor “Holiday Shop and Stroll” on Friday, Dec. 11, from 5-8 p.m.
“We wanted to provide an extra opportunity for people to shop local for the holidays and visit downtown businesses,” Main Street Elizabethton Director Courtney Bean said. “Small Business Saturday was such a success during the daytime we wanted to give people an evening shopping experience.”
“People loved that event,” she added. “Our merchants in downtown Elizabethton are just so happy to work with shoppers to find the perfect gift.”
Over 20 businesses will be participating, offering the perfect opportunity for those who work during the day to shop in the evening in downtown.
“The evening shopping will be particularly festive, with all of the holiday lights and decorations on display, Bean says.
“Our downtown is so magical at night,” she added. “This year the downtown looks even more beautiful than ever and we wanted to bring the joy of seeing our beautiful town all dressed up for the holidays and holiday shopping together for the evening.”
Bean also says this would be the perfect opportunity to take photos to enter Main Street Elizabethton’s “Capturing Christmas in Downtown Elizabethton” photo contest.
This year Northeast Community Credit Union, City of Elizabethton Parks & Recreation Department, and Main Street Elizabethton are excited to announce a fun, interactive, and safe opportunity to capture the magic of Christmas downtown. From December 6 – 16, community members are invited to submit photos using #DowntownElizabethtonChristmas on Facebook and Instagram.
Photo instructions include taking a picture with any of the following items throughout downtown and posting to social media using the hashtag:
– Covered Bridge Park
– Downtown Shopping
– Store Window Display
– Holiday Beverage
– Downtown Christmas Lights
– Historic Fraser Fir
– Hallmark Christmas Moment
– Downtown Dining
Each photo submitted using #DowntownElizabethtonChristmas is counted as a separate entry. The more entries shared, the better the chances to win prizes!
Visit mainstreetelizabethton.com or bemycu.org to download the instructions mentioned above. Each photo entry submitted by December 16 using #DowntownElizabethtonChristmas will be eligible for cash prize drawings, sponsored by Northeast Community Credit Union. Prizes include six $50 Visa gift cards and a grand prize of a $100 Visa gift card. Winners will be announced by Friday, December 18.
Shop and Stroll will offer a safe shopping opportunity with social distancing encouraged and face masks required for all merchants.
Holiday music will be playing throughout downtown and the East Tennessee Ballet Academy will provide pop-up performances.
“This will be a great way to wind up your holiday shopping season,” Bean said.
