Anthony was a man of unshakable faith (Hebrews 11: 1-3)
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7
Anthony Wayne Johnson, 52, of Blountville, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, from Johnson City Medical Center. Anthony was born in Minneapolis, Minn., to Myra Jean Ford Maxberry, Johnson City, and the late Larry Wayne Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jacob Anthony Johnson, and his step-father, Bobby Maxberry.
Anthony was a Senior Loss Control Consultant for United Heartland and was a member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church, where he taught the Beginner’s Class for 12 years and sang in the Praise Choir. Anthony was a 10 Hour Construction Safety and Health Instructor and was a certified Drug Free Work Place Instructor. He was also MESH certified and was an OSHA outreach trainer.
Anthony enjoyed his family and was always his happiest when he was with them. They were always first after his relationship with God. He also enjoyed hiking, the mountains, riding his tractor, photography and he loved the great outdoors.
Those left to continue his wonderful legacy, in addition to his mother, include his loving wife of 32 years, whom he married on November 5, 1988, Cindy Herndon Johnson, of the home; five children, Isaac Johnson, Anna Johnson, Isabelle Johnson, Sarah Johnson and Joshua Johnson, all of the home; one sister, Lisa Johnson-Short, Elizabethton; a nephew, Gabriel Short, Elizabethton; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Gwen Herndon, Lakeland, Fla.; and a brother-in-law, Steve Herndon and wife Allison of Florida. Also, his church family and many many friends and neighbors are left to cherish his memory.
A service to celebrate the life of Anthony Wayne Johnson will be conducted at 6 p.m. Sunday, November 15, at Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Randy Johnson, Reverend Jim McComas and Reverend Tony Thompson officiating. Music will be provided by Jeff Snyder, Loren Harris, Megan Harsh, Natalie Wright and Reverend Jim McComas. The family will receive friends at the church from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. For those that prefer to avoid close contact, there will be an open visitation at the church between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. (the family will not be present during this time). A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, November 16, in the John Johnson Cemetery in Crossnore, N.C. Active pallbearers will be Isaac Johnson, Gabriel Short, Marvin Johnson, Brian Dyer, Calvin McKinley, Jeremy Wright, Lance Harsh and Mark Wesselman. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Johnson, Tony Jones, Cecil Johnson, Steven McKay, Joe Mays, Sean Mays, Danny Long, Richard Long and Steve Herndon. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. Monday. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church or the Freewill Baptist Family Ministries in honor of Anthony.
