HAPPY VALLEY – With the regular-season football season drawing to a close, it has seemed as things have been going one hundred miles per hour as teams in the area begin to wrap up season play Friday night.

And while many teams will be facing off against non-district teams to close out the season, that is not the case for the Happy Valley Warriors.

The Warriors will be defending Warrior Hill for the last time in the regular season as they play a game with potential playoff implications against a district opponent, the South Greene Rebels.

The Warriors come into this one having only played seven games in this odd season, winning five of those and falling to two opponents.

In conference play, however, Happy Valley boasts a 2-1 record, with their only league loss coming to the team that is second place in the district, the Hampton Bulldogs by a score of 28-0.

But this week the Warriors will be going toe to toe with the first-place team in the district, the undefeated Rebels of South Greene.

In this one, Happy Valley is not only looking to knock the Rebels off their high horse by handing them their first loss of the season, but seeding of the playoffs can also be a factor depending on the outcomes of Friday night.

The Rebels squared off against the Bulldogs only a couple of weeks ago, giving Hampton their first loss of the season and handing them their first conference loss of the campaign, only one game ahead of Happy Valley.

This means that if the Warriors can overcome the odds this weekend, then they will have a shot at being the second seed in this year’s playoffs, also depending on the Bulldogs performance in their district contest this week.

If things go right in their final week of the regular season, then the Warriors will be sitting pretty as they go into this year’s postseason play.

It’s a tight race for this conference, and this matchup on Warrior Hill will be one that fans won’t want to miss.

Kickoff between the Warriors and Rebels will be at 7:30 pm Friday at Happy Valley High School.
