Chamber to host first BOSS Lady Leadercast Women’s Conference

The Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce will host its first BOSS Lady Women’s Leadership Conference on October 2, 7:30-noon, at the Tennessee Center for Applied Technology (TCAT) on Highway 91 in Elizabethton.
Carter County Bank will serve as “Boss Sponsor” for the event which begins at 7:30 a.m. with a boxed breakfast. The program will begin at 8 a.m.
The program, geared to women in leadership, is also open to men, and will feature virtual presentations from American journalist and writer Laura Ling, and Miss USA 2016 and a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve, Deshauna Barber.
There will also be live presentations from local speakers Detra Cleven, Market President for Bank of Tennessee, and Tracie Mosley Young, owner of two local downtown businesses, Building 520 and Five One Eight.
Elizabethton/Carter County Executive Director Joy McCray says women should attend Leadercast to get a different perspective of what “women in leadership” means. “Often we look at leadership as being the president or CEO of a company, but leadership is so much more than a job title,” said McCray. “Leadership is in how we interact with each other, what we pour our time and energy into and what moves us to make changes in our lives and communities.
“What I love about the Leadercast platform is often it hosts celebrities, high profile people, and people in public roles where they tell their story — one that connects us all together.”
McCray says she feels the Leadercast event is important for the community “because we have women of all ages, at all levels right now in our community who have been pivotal in how we grow as a community and in commerce.”
Upcoming leadership events will certainly not be limited to the women of the community, McCray added, noting that men are welcome to attend Leadercast and there are plans to launch a men’s networking group in the spring to focus on building partnerships and bridging gaps in the community.
“This will be very different from BOSS Lady because men communicate much differently,” she said. “We don’t want to give too much away until we’ve had a chance to confirm our plans, but there will be a component of physical activity involved.”
The Chamber has also just launched the Chamber Youth Ambassador program for area high school juniors and seniors, a program that gives students a ‘behind the scenes’ look at how things work in the community “that are very unique to our region,” McCray said. “The program also gives our students a chance to find out more about possible career paths that they might not have considered before.”
More Chamber programs and events planned include Co-Starters, Adult Leadership, and the Newcomers Club, coming in the spring.
Individual tickets for Leadercast Women are $20; tables of 6-8 are $150. Table sponsors will have logo recognition displayed throughout all media and programs. Workplaces and businesses are encouraged to purchase a table and sit together.
As all social distance guidelines and safety requirements will be followed, there is limited seating available.
Due to the sensitivity of each speaker’s topic, the Chamber will not have a live streaming option for this event.
