The Elizabethton Star has learned of the passing of Carter County Mayor Rusty Barnett.
Barnett had gone into the hospital last week due to a heart attack and had surgery the following day.
He had been said to be doing well recently and was looking forward to getting back to work for the citizens of Carter County.
No other details or arrangements are known at this time.
