The Elizabethton Lady Cyclone volleyball team might have been feeling a little deflated after a few days of battling hard only to come up on the short end of the stick in five of their last six matches.
However, a visit from the Chuckey Doak Lady Black Knights might have been the medicine that the Lady Cyclones have had lately as Coach Leslee Bradley’s team took a straight-set 3-0 victory to get back on the winning track.
Elizabethton defeated Chuckey Doak 25-12, 25-15, and 25-20 to take the match and to run their season record to 4-6-0 in a time of 1:24:56.
The Lady Cyclones were lifted by their seniors as Kallista DePrimo led in defensive digs with 13 while Brittany Kitchens collected 11 of her own. Junior Mattie Davis continued to be a force as she also tallied 11 digs in the contest.
Thursday’s match was a complete team effort defensively as well with Grace Martin totaling nine digs and Jayci Bowers adding eight. Others adding defensive digs included freshmen Karie Merritt (2) and Bailee VanHuss.
At the net, Kitchens tallied eight kills while Davis blasted seven. DePrimo and Merritt each totaled four while Anna Fontanez added three.
Offensively, Martin led the charge with two aces on serve while one each was added by Kitchens, DePrimo, and VanHuss.
The upcoming week will be big for the Lady Cyclones as they have two Three River Conferences.
On Tuesday, the Lady Cyclones will host Unicoi Co. at John Treadway Gym and then will travel to the Dyer Dome on the campus of Sullivan East on Thursday.
Both matches will begin at 4:30 pm with freshmen contests followed by junior varsity and varsity action.
