The Lady Cyclones of Elizabethton were looking to go on the road and pick up a Three Rivers Conference volleyball win when they traveled to Blountville to take on the Sullivan Central Lady Cougars.
However, the Lady Cougars were not having any of it as the home team dealt the Lady Cyclones a straight-set defeat, 3-0.
The Lady Cyclones got better with each set but it was too little too late.
Central won set one by a 25-15 score and followed in set two with a 25-17 score.
The Lady Cyclones regrouped needing a victory in set three to extend the match but unfortunately came up four points short falling in set three 25-21 as the Lady Cougars took the key match.
Grace Martin led the ladies from Elizabethton on defense as she had 11 digs in the contest for Coach Leslee Bradley’s squad. Bailee VanHuss had a nice game defensively as the freshman added nine digs.
Brittany Kitchens and Cheyenne Poiroux followed with eight and seven digs respectively.
Others credited with defensive digs were Kallista DePrimo (4), Jayci Bowers (4), Mattie Davis (2), and Anna Fontanez (1).
From an attack standpoint Davis, Kitchens, and DePrimo led the way with four kills apiece while Fontanez added three.
Kitchens added two aces on serve while DePrimo and Martin collected one each.
With the defeat, the Lady Cyclones fell to 3-6-0 on the young season. The match took 1:23:45 to complete.
The Lady Cyclones were back in action on Thursday when they played host to the Lady Black Knights of Chuckey Doak.
Unicoi County will be the next Three Rivers Conference opponent when they visit John Treadway Gymnasium on Tuesday, September 1st for action in freshman, junior varsity, and varsity.
