Ethel Edith Barnett, 92, of Russell Hill Road, Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2020, at her home. She was born in Elizabethton to the late Henry and Kate Scalf Russell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Foyster Barnett, in 1963; an infant daughter, Sonia, in 1959; and a grandson, David Barnett. She was the last of her brothers and sisters; preceding her in death were Luther Russell, Herbert Russell, Robert Russell, Bill Russell, Helen Treadway, Lela Davis and Harry Russell.
Ethel retired from S.H. Kress after 25 years of service and had also worked for Top Dollar for 11 years and also at Big Lots for five years. She was a member of Charity Hill Free Will Baptist Church and she loved to work in her flowers and more than anything she loved her family.
Those left to cherish her many wonderful memories include two sons, Mike (Judy) Barnett and Tim (Dana) Barnett, all of Elizabethton; three grandsons, Dale (Hope) Barnett, Mark Barnett and Foyster Barnett, all of Elizabethton; great-grandchildren, Destinee Richardson of Fort Drum, N.Y., Katie Barnett and Laken Barnett, both of Elizabethton; great-great-grandchildren, Ryder and Paislee; step-grandchildren, Jessica Hurd and Jeremy Hunt; and step-great-granddaughters, Kayden and Emerie Hurd.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. A graveside service to honor Ethel’s life will follow at 1:45 p.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Carl Grindstaff and Rev. Charles Russell officiating. Active pallbearers will be Tim Barnett, Mike Barnett, Mark Barnett, Dale Barnett, Henry Davis and Russell Davis. Laken Barnett will serve as honorary pallbearer. Special friends, Mae Campbell, Trina Paty and Marlene Scott. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carter County is mandating that all citizens who live in or visit Carter County wear masks in public. In keeping in accordance with this mandate, all visitors to the visitation or the graveside service are required to wear a mask or facial covering.
