Homer Sims, 76, of Valley Forge Community, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2020, at Hermitage Health Center. He was the son of the late Hamp and Cordia Wilson Sims.
Homer was a woodworker and a member of Roan Street Church of God. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta “Bertie“ Sims, and his sister, Margaret Sims Daniels.
Those left to cherish his memories are his son, Chris Sims and wife Heather of Elizabethton; grandchildren, Connor Sims and Mackenzie Sims of Elizabethton; nieces, Teresa Hedger and husband Karl, and Sue Craig and husband Bobby; and nephews, Steve Cochran and wife Janice, and Bobby Cochran and wife Trish.
A graveside service to honor the life of Homer Sims will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, August 21, at Glover-Sims Family Cemetery with Ministers Dale Blevins and Kenneth Bewley officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Hermitage Health Center and the Carter County 911 team. Those who will be attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. Friends may come by Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home to sign the guestbook and pay their respects on Thursday, August 20, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 863765, Orlando, FL 32886. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carter County is mandating that all citizens who live in or visit Carter County wear masks in public. In keeping in accordance with this mandate, all visitors to the visitation / funeral service are required to wear a mask and or facial covering.
