To the Editor:
Stray animals are pulled off our city’s streets everyday; orphaned kittens and puppies are left on a doorstep or in a dumpster, often with umbilical cords still attached; dogs and cats are surrendered by owners who don’t want them or are unable to care for them any longer; animals with unimaginable injuries as a result of human cruelty are left to die.
Without our animal shelter what would happen to them? Our animal shelter volunteers and employees provide valuable services to our community. As a shelter volunteer I see first-hand the individual care that is provided to animals by the staff. They exhibit genuine concern for each animal’s well-being. But without an adequate budget, they are unable to provide shelter, food, and supplies for these animals.
Please support our Elizabethton-Carter County Animal Shelter by contacting your commissioner (cartercountytn.gov) and request they vote to fund our shelter with the monetary resources needed to serve our community and the animal within it. Rescuing, caring for, and adopting out animals are a never-ending job but an essential and enriching service to our community.

Sincerely,
Paulette Walton
