To the Editor:
My family and I recently paid a visit to Winged Deer Park in Johnson City. May I say it was a refreshing change to watch the children play on the playground without having to tolerate the stench of cigarette smoke and without having to see discarded cigarette butts laying on the ground like we do here in Carter County.
Our county commissioners had the opportunity last year to opt us into a law prohibiting smoking at our local parks but William Campbell, Mark Blevins, Bradley Johnson, Isaiah Grindstaff, Jerry Profitt, Gary Bailey, Travis Hill, and Aaron Frazier voted no on the motion. Mr. Hill said it was “government overreach.”
We need fresh faces on our board of commissioners or we will continue to be 10 years behind the times compared to surrounding counties.
