The Hungry Wolf restaurant will be donating all the proceeds of 600 BBQ dinners to the volunteer fire departments of Carter County on Sunday.
The idea came from the restaurant’s owner, Georgia Georgiou, who also owns Mad Greek restaurants in the area, deciding to help others in the community.
“When we heard about local fire departments having some issues raising money, Georgia and the Hungry Wolf family decided to donate 600 meals to help the great men and women at the volunteer fire departments,” said Peter Simon, helper to Georgiou.
While the restaurant is aiming to help others, they were equally hit hard during COVID-19.
Simon described that prior to the pandemic, the restaurant had been striving with lunch and dinner. After closing for six weeks, it was not the same. Business is luckily picking back up.
Despite the difficulties the business faced, Simon said that the business wants to help others.
“Georgia’s restaurant is always open for any help we can provide to the community,” he said. “God willing, all of us can get through the tough times.”
David Jones, chief of the West Carter County Volunteer Fire Department and president of the Fire Association, said he is thankful for receiving this help.
“We were tickled to death that they wanted to do that,” he said. “All departments in the county rely on donations to make up part of their operating funds.”
Jones described that any donations are helpful to the fire departments, as equipment is not cheap by any means.
Jones said there will be fire trucks at the restaurant during the event, as well as firefighters helping serve as well. In regards to the outcome of the event, he is hopeful.
“We hope 600 people show up,” he said. “If we can get 600 people there, that would be awesome.”
Money raised at the event will be split evenly among all of the Carter County volunteer fire departments. The event is set to begin at noon and last until meals are gone. Meals will be $7 each and will be ready for pickup, following COVID-19 guidelines.
The Hungry Wolf restaurant wanted to give thanks to those in the Elizabethton and Pinecrest communities for their support. The restaurant is located at 1436 Milligan Highway, Johnson City.
