Hampton Elementary School eighth-graders got the sendoff of a lifetime as Carter County Mayor Rusty Barnett, school principal Bud Hazelwood, and a host of their teachers gathered at the school Tuesday to recognize the students with a parade.
The faculty had placed chairs in a circular path around the parking lot and on each student had their name attached to a chair in their honor.
The Hampton Volunteer Fire Department had their trucks present as family and friends gathered across the highway from the school to wave at each graduate as they passed by at the bottom of the parking lot.
It brought to an end a historic school year the students will be telling their own children about.
