The American Cancer Society (ACS) is seeking community members to be part of the 2020 annual Relay For Life of Carter and Johnson Counties on September 12 at Covered Bridge Park in Elizabethton.
The Relay For Life movement unites 2.5 million participants globally to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer.
One past participant said, “I love to help this great cause!! The best part of the relay is watching the survivors do a lap around the track! Everyone puts their heart and soul into this fundraiser. Thank you for letting us be a part of this!”
The virtual kick-off for Relay For Life of Carter and Johnson Counties Virtual Kickoff will be May 30 on Facebook. Beginning that day teams can pick up their team packets at Betsy Treasures, 547 E. Elk Ave., Elizabethton.
Founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in Tacoma, Wash., in 1985, Relay For Life events around the world have raised nearly $6.5 billion to help ACS attack cancer. Funds raised help ACS fund and conduct breakthrough research, and give cancer patients and their families the resources they need, like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline for answers and support.
Last year’s Relay For Life of Carter and Johnson Counties was held at the Covered Bridge Park and was very successful, raising $26,000.
