A tribute to EHS Top Ten Percent – Part 2 Elizabethton High recognizes 33 students

This week the second installment of paying tribute to the EHS Class of 2020 Top Ten Percent continues with 11 more students being highlighted for their achievements during this historic time in American history.
Once again, the Star appreciates the help of EHS teacher Rachel Wagner for her work in compiling the Top Ten Percent for Elizabethton High School.
The Star will be recognizing other students throughout the county for making the Top Ten Percent as well.
Today’s student’s profiles include some of their favorite memories as well.

Savannah Hershey

Savannah Hershey is the daughter of Brian and Michelle Hershey. Her most notable moments of high school include:

–       Receiving her Certified Nursing Assistant license through the nursing education class

–       Driving in a big city by herself

–       Going to Nashville for her 18th birthday

After high school, Savannah plans to attend East Tennessee State University, where she has received the Dean’s Academic Performance Scholarship, to pursue a degree in Nursing.

Deanna Rose Hull

Deanna Hull is the daughter of Eric and Heather Hull. Her most notable moments in high school include:

–       Winning the NPR Student Podcast Challenge

–       Being named to the 2018 Volleyball All-Conference Team

–       Being named the 2019 Volleyball All-Conference Defensive Player of the Year

–       Being on the 2019-2020 Volleyball FCA All-Star Team

–       Winning the 2016 Division II State Marching Band Championship

–       Tying the school record for Volleyball wins three years in a row—24 wins each year

–       Marching at Disney with the Betsy Band

–       Marching with the Pride of the Southland Band in Knoxville

–       Being presented with the key to the city of Erwin, TN

–       Being a member of the 30+ ACT Club

After high school, Deanna is unsure of her plans. She is currently deciding between continuing her education at Milligan or East Tennessee State University or pursuing a career in the United States Air Force.

Victoriann Mariposa Isbister

Victoriann Isbister is the daughter of Mariann Isbister. Her most notable moments in high school include:

–       Volunteering for the Pulsera Project in Spanish Club

–       Taking both dual enrollment and honors classes throughout high school

–       Participating in Chorus

–       Taking four years of Spanish

–       Working at the 911 Carter County Station for the work-based learning program

–       Teaching Algebra 1 students as a part of her Pre-Calculus class

–       Participating in the Milligan Capstone Class

–       Serving as a Graduation Marshall her junior year

–       Writing a play entitled Time that Keeps on Giving for the Barter Theatre Young Playwrights Festival and receiving a certificate.

After high school Victoriann plans to pursue a degree in forensic science or psychology at Middle Tennessee State University or King University.

Hallie Elise McMillan

Hallie McMillan is the daughter of Richard and Julie McMillan. Her most notable moments of high school include:

–       Being inducted as a member of the National Honor Society

–       Painting a mural for her community improvement class

–       Competing in the NPR Student Podcast Challenge

–       Painting posts for the Tweetsie Trail Storybook Trail Dedication

–       Attending XQ Live in Nashville, TN

–       Organizing a clothing drive for the VA

–       Making stockings for the Isaiah 117 House

–       Getting her first job

–       Traveling abroad to Mexico, Ireland, and Europe

–       Making life-long friends.

After high school, Hallie plans to attend East Tennessee State University with a Faculty Academic Performance Scholarship.

Caleb Nathaniel Miller

Caleb Miller is the son of Daniel and Jennifer Miller. His most notable moments of high school include:

–       Winning the 2016 Division II State Marching Band competition with the Betsy Band

–       Marching at Disney with the Betsy Band

–       Receiving his driver’s license

–       Spending the week of his spring break in Pigeon Forge with his friends

–       Picking up his Corgi Winston and bringing him home his freshman year

–       Being honored at Senior Night

–       Watching the football team win the State Championship

–       Making the Varsity Soccer team

–       Hanging out with friends throughout the year.

 After high school, Caleb will be attending East Tennessee State University as a Provost Scholar to pursue a career in the medical field.

Corbin Andrew Montgomery

Corbin Montgomery is the son of Andy and Kelli Montgomery. His most notable moments of high school include:

–       Maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout high school

–       Being inducted into National Honor Society

–       Receiving a CTE award for Computer Science

–       Running track with his friends

–       Watching Friday night football games

–       Being a member of the first VR class at Elizabethton

–       Playing games at pep rallies

–       Getting drenched in the rain at homecoming.

After high school, Corbin will be attending East Tennessee State University to pursue a degree in computer science.

 

Olivia Jane Oakley

Olivia Oakley is the daughter of John and Jane Oakley. Her most notable moments of high school include:

–       Winning the 2016 Division II State Marching Band Championship with the Betsy Band

–       Her entire freshman year in the Betsy Band

–       Making the Varsity Cheer team

–       Volunteering with the Key Club

–       Dancing at halftime during basketball games

–       Receiving her Junior letter

–       Participating in the Homecoming Pep Rallies at the elementary schools her senior year

–       Performing the band show for the last time at finals during the State Band Competition

–       Cheering at the football State Championship game

–       Cheering and dancing at the last home basketball game.

After high school, Olivia plans to attend East Tennessee State University with a Faculty Academic Scholarship. She plans to pursue a degree in biology.

Keyu Patel

Keyu Patel is the son of Ketan and Sanyita Patel. His most notable moments of high school include:

–       Going to the FBLA State Competition

–       Going to the HOSA State Competition

–       Running track

–       Being in the first VR class at Elizabethton

–       Doing service projects in his community improvement class

–       Being one of the first students in the integrated History/English classes

–       Having perfect attendance

–       Competing in the Science Bowl

–       Winning the Wynell White Biology Award

–       Being a member of the Top Ten Percent

After high school, Keyu plans to attend the University of Tennessee Knoxville to pursue a degree in biology.

Mackenzie Faith Puckett

Mackenzie Puckett is the daughter of Ted and Chris Puckett and the granddaughter of Charlotte Harding. Her most notable moments of high school include:

–       Winning the 2016 Division II State Marching Band Competition with the Betsy Band

–       Serving as the 2019 Colorguard Captain

–       Marching at Disney World with the Betsy Band

–       Marching with the Pride of the Southland Band in Knoxville

–       Being a featured dancer in the band shows all four years of high school

–       Being a member of the 2019 Varsity Rifle line

–       Maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout high school

–       Being inducted into the National Honor Society

–       Participating in the “Wishing on a Cyclone” Bartleby project

–       Competing at the ETSU Piano Festival four times

After high school, Mackenzie plans to attend Milligan University with both a dance and merit scholarship.

Jasmine Roberts

Jasmine Roberts is the daughter of Kimberly Roberts and the granddaughter of Debora Roberts. Her most notable moments of high school include:

–       Winning the 2016 Tennessee Division II State Marching Band Competition with the Betsy Band

–       Going to state in track in 2017, 2018, and 2019

–       Marching at Disney World with the Betsy Band

–       Placing first at the Tennessee and Surrounding State Powerlifting Meet

–       Being captain of the Powerlifting team

–       Serving as Vice President of the GSA Club

–       Receiving her PMI certifications in Automotive

–       Being voted MVP and Most Outstanding Powerlifter

–       Holding the record for Bench and Deadlift at Hampton Powerlifting meet

–       Receiving a superior rating at Solo and Ensemble

After high school, Jasmine plans to enlist in the United States Army. She will also be attending Louisiana State University.

Olivia Ashton Roe

Olivia Roe is the daughter of Gary and Michelle Roe. Her most notable moments of high school include:

–       Serving as senior class Vice President

–       Being inducted into National Honor Society

–       Serving at FCA President

–       Being a member of the 2018-2019 Carter County Youth Leadership

–       Serving as Business Manager for the yearbook

–       Being a member of the Women’s Ensemble for three years

–       Participating in 2016 All-East Freshman Honor Choir

–       Performing at The Kennedy Center in the National Memorial Day Choral Festival in Washington DC with the chorus

–       Being a member of the Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy

–       Being a Watts Showcase Dancer

After high school, Olivia plans to attend Milligan University on both dance and academic scholarships to pursue a degree in elementary education.
