Hooper named Associate Dean of Research and Scholarship at ETSU College of Nursing

JOHNSON CITY — Dr. Vallire Hooper has been named Associate Dean of Research and Scholarship and Director of the PhD program at East Tennessee State University’s College of Nursing.
“I am very excited to have Dr. Hooper join our faculty and serve as Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship,” said Dr. Wendy Nehring, dean of the College of Nursing. “She brings excellent experience in successful grant writing and sustained scholarship. I believe that she can be instrumental in taking our college to the next level in scholarship and research funding.”
For the last nine years, Hooper has served as the Nurse Scientist Scholar at Mission Health in Asheville, N.C., where she worked with nursing and other disciplines in developing studies, posters, podiums and publications across multiple specialties. She also facilitated grant and manuscript development at Mission Health.
In addition, she is past Director of Research for the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses and has served as co-editor for the Journal of PeriAnesthesia Nursing for 20 years.
A perianesthesia nurse by training, she earned her PhD from the Medical College of Georgia in 2009. She has taught in undergraduate, master’s, DNP and PhD programs. She is a member of the American Academy of Nursing.
“I truly enjoy mentoring nurses across all specialties and educational levels in advancing their education and careers,” Hooper said. “I look forward to working with the ETSU College of Nursing and working with our students to help them pursue their academic and professional dreams.”
