HARTSVILLE (AP) — A Tennessee prison inmate has been charged with killing his cellmate during a fight last year, authorities said.

Jacob Wendell Kado was booked Tuesday at Trousdale County Jail on a charge of second-degree murder in the June 15 death of Ernest Hill, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Wednesday.

Kado, 40, was indicted in October in the death of Hill at the Trousdale Turner Correctional Center, which is run by CoreCivic.

A CoreCivic statement released in June said Hill, 42, was killed in an “inmate-on-inmate altercation.” The prison was placed under a temporary partial lockdown.

A jail official did not immediately respond to a request for information about whether Kado has a lawyer to speak on his behalf.
